About Pilates

Pilates was developed in the 1900s by Joseph Pilates who identified that specific exercises could strengthen and balance the muscles of the body. Pilates is a safe exercise that strengthens and tones muscle, improves posture and body awareness. It focuses on core strengthen which can help improve back pain and reduce risk of injury. Pilates is becoming an increasingly popular exercise for those at all exercise levels and is a valuable addition to any fitness regime.

Alison is a chartered physiotherapist with post graduate modified Pilates training. She uses a combination of her pilates and physiotherapy skills to ensure that all exercises are performed safely and adapted to suit individuals needs. In order to allow for close monitoring we have small classes- maximum of 6 per class.

It is advisable, though not essential, that you have a 1-1 assessment with the physiotherapist prior to the first class to assess you posture and rehabilitation needs. This is also an opportunity to go over some of the core pilates moves prior to starting the classes. If you would like a 1-1 pre-pilates exercise programme assessment please contact Alison directly on 07917 525959.
